Staffing Solutions Organization Hosts Career Day with Local High School Students

Albany, NY, May 2, 2019/ -- For the second year in a row, Staffing Solutions Organization, LLC. (SSO) hosted a Career Day, in Albany, NY with New York State Medicaid employees to introduce local high school students to careers in healthcare. 

This year, 40 ninth-grade students from Watervliet High School attended the event on Monday, April 29, 2019. This Career Day is part of Junior Achievement’s Job Shadow Program, which introduces students to careers through an in-person, on-site program. The students get an opportunity to experience careers of interest by meeting professionals currently in the job and asking questions about the skills, experience and education necessary to perform this role, creating a link between academics and careers. For SSO and NYS Medicaid, job shadowing offers both an introduction to the workforce of tomorrow, as well as the opportunity to help students explore career options and gain insight into what it takes to achieve goals.

NYS Medicaid Director Donna Frescatore kicked the morning off by welcoming students and describing her role. The students then met with more than 15 Medicaid professionals, representing a wide range of various careers, to learn more about their respective jobs. The SSO team performed mock interviews and shared workplace “do’s and don’ts” with the students.  

Many students commented that the day was very informative, and that they were surprised to learn of the various activities that occur within the Medicaid Office.
